First Major Project In The New House
"The Bathroom"

Our first project was the bathroom....though we hadn't planned on redoing the
bathroom immediately, all it took was for Michael to sit down on the "throne" one time and
when his knees banged the side of the bathtub...we were on a mission!!
The existing bathroom was very small and very old and when we got deeper, we found the
floor rotted away under all of the fixtures. Bruce, Michael's brother, has volunteered to help us with the work at hand.
You can see in this picture that this bedroom had a 2 foot alcove into the
room....they tore out the wall and expanded the bathroom into that 2 foot space. Bruce just loves demolition but he was very careful so as not to ruin the
2 x 6's they will need to rebuild the "plumbing wall". And then there was the old iron pipe that had to be removed....ugh! Flying drywall distorted some of my pics. It was just like a blizzard!
Notice Michael just continues to stare at the ugly black pipe....lol and this is part of what was left of the bathroom..... The wall was only the beginning of the demolition!! lol ...but we have to think about it first to figure out the best way to
remove it....;-) Michael hasn't forgotten how to "sweat a pipe". Nor has he forgotten how to use a sledge hammer....lol...hopefully he won't
need it too many more times....lol and this is the other part of what was left.... Michael does NOTHING halfway....lol He had to go allllllll the way down to the floor joists...lol...and
for a good reason, the subfloor was completely rotted under all the fixtures. and this is the last shot of the "mean old black pipe"....lol Bruce spent the day framing up the new bathroom. Now we have a new one piece shower/bathrub. And a new commode, though it's not installed yet....just sitting there
looking lonely. We just LOVE the 80 gallon hot water heater...;-) ...and all the fittings have "the purple stuff"....lol Clean up was and is an inevitable ongoing process...this is one of the few
times you'll see Michael doing it....lol....it's usually my job....;-) Our beautiful new vanity with a matching mirrored cabinet. The "infamous" crawlspace.....Tony says with just a little work and some
drywall we could rent it out without a problem!! rofl And finally after countless trips to the crawl space..... and endless trips to Lowe's.... We have a new bathroom!!!! It sat like this for 2 days until all the plumbing below the house was
completely redone by Tony, a friend of mine from work. Tony has just
recently remodeled his own home and did an excellent job of plumbing our new
home.
And finally we have a beautiful new bathroom!! Tony and Michael worked many long hours on the plumbing and we finally were able to "flush" the first time about 2:30am July 27th.
Bruce did an excellent job of demolition and then rebuilding what he had just torn out....he's VERY talented!!
The "greenwall" still needs to be finished and painted, the vanity mirror needs to be hung and the woodwork needs to be put back, but the good news is that we don't have to crawl out of bed in the mornings and hop in the car to run up to Dairy Queen...lol...nor do we bump our knees any more!! lol
Ummm....by the way,
the vanity did finally get hung....;-)
Email us with comments, suggestions and criticisms too,
but please be gentle...lol
