The Living Room
September 14th
We started out the week with a bang this morning...the "bang" was me hitting the
floor....we had moved everything out of the living room yesterday except for the
new sectional (which arrived on Thursday) and the entertainment center...and
this morning at 6am I tripped over a box on the way to the bathroom and fell
against the odds and ends furniture.....ugh....I think I broke the last joint of
my ring finger and I completely ripped my fingernail off.....ewwwwwwww.
Just soreness elsewhere....but I have to be tough, at least I didn't have a
router ride my index finger all the way up to the top knuckle like Michael
did....double ugh!!! Thank God we're both healthy people and his finger is
healing nicely, but when he bends it, it still looks like an accordion!
Anyway, this is 7am Sunday morning and we're texturizing & painting the ceiling
and walls in the living room.
That large brown spot is where they had a dresser mirror mounted on the
wall....and it had hung there through MANY coats of paint...lol
Well, we had anticipated being finished with the living room by evening, but
ran into a real problem...;-( They had wallpaper in the living room when
we moved in and they really over did it on the glue... whenever our texturing
hit their old glue it just makes it come alive and then everything turns
yellow...;-( Therefore, we decided to go back and cover the entire room
with primer....guess what? Even that didn't work...;-( We still have
yellow bleeding though the primer! Turns out that the previous owner
of our home was a heavy smoker and evidently the wallpaper glue is stained with
nicotine....sooooo, we went ahead and
texturized all the walls and we're just going to go back and paint a real good
quality paint over the whole mess and hope that covers all the nasty leftover
glue. Michael will be home working on it all day tomorrow so like they say
on t.v., "pictures tomorrow at 6"
Well, it finally took a gallon of KILZ to stop the "glue-nicotine monster"...
but
it worked and now all the walls are pristine...thank goodness they
never had the thought of papering the ceiling!!! lol
Okay, I
refuse to pay the ridiculous prices they want for curtain rods and window
treatments and have always made them a "creative project". And especially in this
case...the set of three windows are over 10 feet long. This is just dowel rods,
finials and sconces from Lowe's spray painted with some really cool paint that
gives them a hammered look...
...can't wait to find the box with all my sheer
swag fabric in it...;-)
We just
aren't sure what we're going to do with the floor at this point...maybe sand and
refinish it, then a nice room-sized rug and as a last resort wall-to-wall
carpet...the jury is still out, but until we can get all the "openings" in the
house sealed up and as long as all this dust continues, we'll probably just let
the floors go for a little longer.
You know,
after living like we are, just the fact that we have a nice sofa and televison in a
clean room is such a joy...;-)
