"Raising Of The Hall"

This all started with the water heater...it's 80 gallons and both our eyes lit up and our hearts swelled when we first saw it....no more worrying about who's in the shower when you want to flush and no more cold showers...lol...the problem here is that they set the water heater in the corner of the bathroom where there was no support beam....let's do the math....80 gals X 7 lbs a gallon = 560 pounds of water alone, not counting the water heater itself.  Well, the inevitable happened, the floor began to droop and droop badly....but only in the one corner....just to the left of the hole and to the end closest to you in the picture.

On one of our countless trips to Lowe's, Michael bought a hydraulic jack and last weekend sunk into the crawl space again and with his handy-dandy concrete blocks proceeded to jack up the quickly sagging hallway.

You can see the tilt from this shot.

Incidentally, if you will notice, the attic hatch is still uncovered, which is where all our cool air is going....one dollar at a time...;-(

Just a half a bubble off plumb....lmao...this was in front of the bathroom door....

and in front of the living room doorway, we're an entire bubble off...who'd a thunk it....lol

So, after much thinking.....

and much jacking.....

and much more thinking and much more jacking...

He finally got it almost right....there's probably not any way that it will ever go back to perfectly level, let's face it, the house is 48 years old....but this was a definite improvement and something we can live with.

The he replaced the subfloor.....

And after a smashed finger or two and MUCH loud shouting, we finally have a hallway floor again...;-)
